How to Choose the Right Voltage Converter
To select the appropriate voltage converter for your device, first identify the voltage (110 or 220 Volt AC) and wattage rating (watts or amps) listed on the back or bottom of the device or in its instruction manual. If only amps are provided without watts, calculate the watts by multiplying the input voltage by the amperage.
For example,
Volts (AC input) x Amps (current) = Watts (power)
110V x 0.5A = 55W
Keep in mind that some devices require a larger safety margin because they can have power surges. It is recommended not to use a converter beyond roughly 80% of its maximum wattage. It is safer to have a converter with a higher capacity than needed rather than one that is insufficient. Using a converter at full capacity for extended periods can cause it to fail.
Warning: Make sure the wattage and voltage of your appliance or equipment and the wattage of the transformer is suitable for each other, and the proper input voltage is selected on the back of the transformer according to the country of use before you connect the transformer and turn it ON. Failure to follow the instructions may result in damage to the transformer and the appliance.
